Cannot restore Proliant Microserver

Hello,
I have issues restoring from Windows Server Backup. When I boot from the Win 2012R2 DVD nearly all the time it is really slow loading. I get to select the language etc after about 10 minutes, then I select repair computer (screen appears immediately) then nothing else happens. I have waited two hours still nothing.

Also during POST pressing F5 for ACU or F10 for Intelligent Provisioning does nothing.

During 6 hours of trying only once did the DVD boot sequence flow properly, I got the next screen within 2 seconds. However it failed to see the USB drive containing the backup.

Also sometimes the (new) keyboard doesn't work during the boot sequence.

Machine is 18 months old with default firmware and BIOS.

B120i firmware is 3.54 can't remember what the BIOS version is but is the same as shipped.

Any ideas? I cannot get a BIOS update as I do not have a support contract, never needed one before to get updates... the controller firmware for B120i is not available on the microserver download site.

How do I get access to the "maintenance-contract-only" items? I guess I have to get a maintenance contract but how do I do this?

Also annoying is my client is a sports centre open 7/7 18 hours per day and they have been offline since yesterday lunchtime.
Thanks very much.

Have you got the HP Smart Start CDs to boot from?

Does the server have a raid card?

Hi
no Smartstart CD as it comes with Intelligent Provisioning. It has an integrated Dynamic Smart Array B120i controller wehich can be set (press F9) to act as a normal SATA controller.

I've just found an old Smartstart 8.70 from another server

Run all the hardware tests you can. I'd try to eliminate raid issues as well. I had a proliant raid card that kept killing my whole raid5 config after we added a battery module to it.

Fixed now - I upgraded the Intelligent Provisioning to 1.63 by booting off a USB DVD reader. Then pressing F10 was reliable. I used this to upgrade the BIOS.

Next I downloaded a different Win 2012 R2 image from Microsoft, this time from MSDN.

Then the machine booted off this DVD without hanging at all. So it seemed my previous DVD was not good for some reason. Booting off this DVD all I had to do was load the 2012 R2 driver from a USB stick and the restore worked.

I worked out the solution on my own.

Matedwards thank you for assisting.
