Splitting where DNS Lives

Can you separate out DNS records for the same domain name across two different hosts?  We have a web host and they have all the DNS records along with our website.  We are having a heck of a time with email and want to move the email DNS records for the same domain to another host, but keep the other records related to website stuff with them. Is it Possible?

You cannot split the DNS in this way, that's not how it works.  Regardless it should be a simple matter to just update the DNS records where they are defined now in order to implement the MX and CNAME record changes required.
