Veeam backup Catalog

In Veritas Netbackup, the catalog backup consists of 2 separate backups:
The DR file and the Images folder.
The Image folder is usually very big in size.

In Veeam, if I am not wrong the Catalog runs as windows Service, I know that there is a folder named VBRCatalog, I checked that folder and saw it to small.
I would like to know where does Veeam physically store the Information (The catalog) about the old backups. I also want to know if Veeam backup servers replicate the Information(Catalog) to other Veeam proxy servers.

Thank you

Hi,

Veeam Backup Catalog is part of Veeam Enterprise Manager, This is the what will work with the Catalog.

This Catalog will give information about backup jobs, but also the VM Guest files. Used in the indexing.

If you have 1, 2 or more Veeam Backups(even Proxys) you will only have one Veeam Enterprise Manager. So is global and the information is only stored where Veeam Enterprise Manager is installed.

Read here more about Veeam Backup Catalog.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/em/veeam_backup_catalog.html

or

Hope this can help

Hi,

Veeam Backup Server is one thing, Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager is another. One will not substitute the other.

You cannot do backup from Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager. This is just to manage the Veeam Backup Infrastructure Globally(even you have 1 Veeam Backup, or more). Can be installed in the Veeam Backup Server itself, but can be installed in different Server.

Location of the files itself, could in the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager folder. But need to double check that and from here I cannot check.

I will try to send you this information tomorrow.

When you go about restoring a VM on Veeam, you go through a Restore Wizard and it will display all Restore Points available, that you can select from.
Well, I believe all that information comes from the backup catalog file.
What I am asking is , by default where does Veeam store that Backup Catalog file, and what is its default name ?

Hi,

Backup Catalog should be in C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup Catalog

The information that you are looking, I think is inside of the *.vbm file itself.

Can you explain what  are you trying to do, or why do you need this file vs information?? Maybe with more information we can help more.
