I have 2012 and 2012 r2 file servers that are VMs running on hyper-v . What is the recommended antivirus software that I could use . I am running Bitdifender  on the clients win 7 machines . I was thinking of jest getting Microsoft Endpoint Protection which will work even without System center since we don't have system center .

If cost is not an issue, I would recommend SEP - Symantec Endpoint Protection. The service support and threat response is second to non.

continue with windows defender. Unless you are using remote desktop sessions the server does not execute files located on its shares.

My issue is that what if a client places an infected  file on one of the network drives and it spreads via the network .
