SHIFT key not working with number keys

Sticky Keys are not turned on and this has only recently been happening but when I use “SHIFT” + any of the number keys for punctuation it only gives me a number as if “SHIFT” was not pressed. Eg. “SHIFT” + “2” should give me “@” but it gives me 2. Yet “SHIFT” + “=” gives me “+” meaning that the shift does work but just not with numbers. Does anyone know what has happened and how I can fix this?

Thanks.

Is the keyboard USB?  If so, try a different USB port.  Test again.

Try a different keyboard and see if the issue stays with the computer.  If it does, try powering off computer and turning back on.  Test again.

Try this keyboard in a different computer and see if the issue follows the keyboard.  If so, get a new keyboard.

Post results.

Cheers ScottCha,

Keyboard is built into the laptop. Tried another keyboard and the same problem persists. restarted my computer. Think it could be conflicting with a shortcut?
what laptop is this?  does it havve a separate numerical keyboard?  from your post, i suppose it does not have that

and test with an EXTERNAL usb keyboard - to see if that works fine or not!
What is the make/model of the laptop?  You may want to condider a replacement keyboard.  They can usually foundd on ebay for under $20.

Since you have already tried another keyboard this is what I would try next.

But before that try booting with a live distro of Knoppix and see if you see the same thing.  This will tell you if it's os or hardware related.

Just search on "knoppix".

Let me know the results.
check the nation/language setting for the pc and keyboard also
Thanks for all the help...Just to let everyone know that I had tried all of these suggestions before writing here on Experts Exchange and none of them helped. HOWEVER, IT IS FIXED NOW. It turns out doing nothing fixed it...I don't have any idea how...maybe a windows update...thanks again
Glad it's working.

One suggestion....it's better to list everything you've tried so suggestions don't duplicate what you've already tested.

Also, in your original post you didn't mention it was a laptop or the make/model of the machine.  Information like this is important so we can provide the best suggestions possible.
could be a bad contact - so wait a couple of days to see if it returns
