Hi,

there are many guides online, so not sure what are you aiming for.

For simple installation you can use this guide: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/canitpro/2013/05/05/step-by-step-adding-a-windows-server-2012-domain-controller-to-an-existing-windows-server-2003-network/

Regards,
Ivan.

Use the guide yes. Group Policies depend on business its needs, but if you do not know Active Directory & Group Policies I would highly recommend getting an external contractor in to assist and plan the GPO's.
This costs up front, but saves money in the long run, as the company would likely spend many days fixing up oddities on the domain due to missing or incorrect GPO's.
Another bonus is that you get to observer and learn so you can do it yourself next time ;)
