I am having trouble setting all selectcolumns to selected in a RadGrid

My code is setting ONLY the last row to selected as you can see in my screen print

This is my HTML
<telerik:GridClientSelectColumn UniqueName="ChkCharge" HeaderText="Charge">
</telerik:GridClientSelectColumn>

Open in new window

This is my code in the pre-render sub
The TryCast does nothing whether I set the text or set to checked
For Each item As GridDataItem In rgMyCustomers.MasterTableView.Items
    item.Selected = True
    ' TryCast(item("ChkCharge").Controls(0), CheckBox).Text = "LL"
Next

Open in new window

I have found my own solution.
It was the simple matter of moving a nested function to within a loop
