autoit - check if option is checked in another program

is there a way with autoit to have it check to see if an option is checked on another program

say  i have program B that i'm waiting to change settings to. I want it to see if [enable protection has a check mark in it and if it does take it of and then of course turn it back on or whatever.

can someone help me with this?

i got it to work with the controlcommand() function. thanks!
