Microsoft Outlook: The action cannot be completed. The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list.

Outlook profiles setup successfully when the user profile and workstation is joined to the domain, but when the profile has to be setup from a computer that is not joined to the domain and on the internet it gives the error "The action cannot be completed. The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list." Exchange 2013 CU 13 is installed Outlook anywhere is enabled and authentication mode is set to Basic.

Do I have to look at other settings to make this work, as it does not give this error when joined to the domain?

The name is not hidden because the same account successfully configures in a the domain environment only when I want to setup the account from an internet based workstation it gives the error.

Hi,

First try https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ and run both Outlook tests, for that user.

If autodiscover is not working you need to configure it manually by:

 1. Servername: put internal server name
 2. Username: put in format domain\username
 3. Dont click on check name after you put username
 4. Click More settings --> Connection --> Outlook anywhere --> enable
 5. Configure it and Choose basic or NTLM security.
 6. When you exit from setting and go Next, to see if everything is typed OK, you will receive error, and window will pop out, saying it cant find mailbox or something.
 7. Change domain\username in that window to email address of user.

Regards,
Ivan.

I have run both the tests for both completes successfully with warnings both about Attempting to test potential Autodiscover which fails and the ssl cert that cant be validated

No response from the author from a long time. As he last updated the following comment:
"If I add the email profile to mobile devices the account sets up normally". So I think the problem is resolved now. Please close the thread.
