You can download Java and various Java tutorials exist to get you started.  Or buy one of the numerous Java books out there.  If you've got programming experience this is the way to go.  Also see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index-jsp-135888.html

If you've never programmed before then this isn't the way to go.  For self learning, learn a simpler language like C (just the basics) to get you started.  Lots of books exist for this and there are a huge number of free compilers out there.  With that grounding then come back to Java but be aware it won't be easy.

Any of the major educational institutions will have Java courses but many of them will offer Java as part of the curriculum rather than stand alone.  Check with them.  Their certifications will be the ones you want rather than a lesser known institution.

And the best way to learn is to do.  Practical simple Java programming exercises and as many as possible.

If you have never programmed, then to learn the basics of programming, there is a very easy free set of Python courses here: https://www.coursera.org/specializations/python
Although this page shows a fee, if you select the individual courses, you can sign up for free by auditing the courses.
1. https://www.coursera.org/learn/python
2. https://www.coursera.org/learn/python-data
3. https://www.coursera.org/learn/python-network-data
4. https://www.coursera.org/learn/python-databases

The advantage of learning Python over C is that at least Python introduces some containers which will help you transition to Java.

I am asking if there are Certifications for Java/other programming languages the same way Cisco has CCNA and CompTIA has the A+/Network+/Security+ etc.
