UI is User Interface: The design of the website. Is it easy to navigate and use.

UX us User eXperience: The satisfaction the website generates, is it a pleasure to use.

If you want a more detailed explanation check out the Wikipedia articles, it describes in greater detail about both UI and UX.

Hi Nandu,

This is a very great question to ask. UI is about how your site or your app looks as far as the visual elements, colors, branding, cool animations and the platform standard considerations. In other word, a person who is designing a UI is more concerned about how to keep the product beautiful, modern and followed by the brand standards to have a consistent message for the business. UI designers usually deal with applications like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to maintain great UI elements.

On the other hand UX is more about understanding what user needs are and how to make a product something that is usable without the least frictions. UX deliverables are usually helping UI designers to have an skeleton for their visual designs. So when you have a web/app design project, it's always UX first and then UI. UX designers are more focused on user research techniques, interviews, surveys, card sorting and collaborative design techniques. UX designers should have close communication with project managers, developers, test engineers and all other stakeholders to make sure that they are all designing a usable product and the outcome of that product is solving users' problems.
