How to get statistic's from a competitors website?!

I've been asked by my CEO to research a e-commerce website that is selling in our industry.

He would like to know things like,  volume of visitors per month,  what language is the site constructed with,  and any other technical information I can get out of the website to get an idea of how successful the site is.

I really have no idea where to start on this, because obviously I am not the site administrator.  This is the competitors website!

Please suggest anything that might help get some stats from a site.
