Website Domain Forwarding

We have a customer who purchased another company and they are wanting to forward that companies website to their own website.  I'm wondering if that is the best thing to do since there is link juice with the other website?

Two methods come to mind.

Change the DNS lookup for the purchased company's web site to point at your company's current web site IP.  Virtual host the old web site's name (in Apache) or the equivalent in IIS.  Forward URLs from the vhost to the current web site as you see fit.  This gives control over all URLs and need not be a one size fits all solution.

Leave the purchased company's web site where it is, and forward all requests to the home page of your company's web site.  See the Apache solution to this for an example.  This is a simple solution and has the advantage that the response is marked as a Redirect, which causes browsers and search engines to deprecate the old URLs.
