I have a new laptop and want to import my bookmarks to the new box.  I googled it, followed the instructions with no luck.  The instructions say that it will create an html file but the extension on the file is ".json".  When I try the import it does not work.
Any one have an idea?

JSON is JavaScript Object Notation. You are probably following these instructions here under the "manual backup" section?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them

If you do, it will create a JSON file. There is another option on that same menu to "Export the bookmarks to HTML..."

Can you confirm which you are selecting?
