private messaging software needed (for multiple computers to communicate within an office)
Hi I have 3 computers at my office and would like to be able to install a program or app which can easily send pop up messages, and so all users can communicate with each other. Does anyone know any software for this other then something like yahoo messenger ? I would like the software to communicate within the network if possible.

Steven brings up a good point that Skype is not just a VIOP solution but is also a solid messaging platform. However, Skype is not a LAN messaging platform in that it requires communication with servers on the Internet. Also, there is some question about if Skype's encryption implementation is still as secure as it was prior to its acquisition by MS.
Mattermost could work for you.
There's also Slack and HipChat. Slack is a service, but encrypted. HipChat is also a service, but is also available as a self hosted solution (it's only $10 a year since you have less than 10 users).
