A client needs a new fan for a HP TouchSmart 600-1265qd CTO Desktop PC and he wants to know what type of fan to order for this unit and where a fan may be ordered. It is no longer covered under warranty and I am having a hard time finding out the type and where to get one. I do not have access to the unit to open it up.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Go to partsurfer.hp.com and look up the serial number, it should give you a list of all spare parts for the machine.

That site worked pretty well. It listed a lot of different part options but unfortunately I can't see the fan anywhere.

It's on the heatsink 603324-001 by the looks of it. Best to replace  603325-001 thermal pad as well (and get some TIM cleaner to remove the old one)

Hmm, okay. Let me look at the heatsink option and some cleaner.

Google images  show the fan without heatsink, http://www.notebookpartsshop.com/new-hp-touchsmart-600-6001150a-6001155-6001160ch-series-cpu-fan-603324001-p-1815.html for example so you don't need to replace the heatsink after all, just that HP only sell it as a fan/heatsink assembly.

Okay, it looks like this may be the best options for trying just the fan. Thank you.
