I have a  ESXi host with 2 * 10 Gbps Physical adaptors.
The Physical Adaptors are mapped to vmic0 & vmnic4.  These are connected to the Physical L2 switches with LACP.
I have vDS with default NIOC settings.

Now i am creating a vmkernal port which I be using only for the backup traffic which needs to be of low priority.
This traffic will also flow through vmnic0 & vmnic4 but this traffic should not impact by production VM traffic and other production traffic.
Let me know how should I configure NIOC for this kind of traffic & set the priority.

Hi,

This article is a 3 year old, but Frank did explain in detail about NIOC and how to use shares vs priority.

http://frankdenneman.nl/2013/01/17/a-primer-on-network-io-control/

If you use ESXi 6.0 you can also use something call provisioning with TCP/IP Stacks.

Since you did not explain what are you planing to use on that low priory network, I will assume that is for some vCenter/ESXi features.

Here you can understand how to use TCP/IP Stacks:

https://virtualizationreview.com/articles/2015/10/26/configure-multiple-tcpip-stacks-in-vsphere-6.aspx

https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.vcenterhost.doc%2FGUID-AC418F24-8E7D-40B6-9D07-A9DB504C7F1B.html

Even is available since 5.1, 6.0 have improved a lot and help to divide the network and give priority to same features.

Hope this helps

Thank you.
I am using ESXi 6.0
On the low priority network I am planning to use for the backup traffic. There will be some files & database which I will be taking backup with some backup tool.
This traffic should not impact my actual production traffic.
