Does this one report failed logons and such. error events and other security events life, and not just in a report?

It does. It can also be configured to send email alerts when certain events occur (configurable).

You can also use
Foglight for Active Directory

it does reporting and also shows you the nice diagram of where the fault of your AD might be.

Sorry, I have used Foglight, it was a nightmare for us then. Our experience was that it was super complicated, broke easily, and had java memory issues their tech support admitted and would not fix.
