Split Domain with Lutos Domino and Zimbra mail server.

I am fresh Domino learner and now I want to configure split Domain with Lotus Domino as primary and Zimbra mail server as secondary.

After I configured split domain between Domino and Zimbra mail server, I can sent email from Domino to Zimbra, but cannot sent mail from Zimbra to Domino. And it show the error as below:

Connection from [192.168.1.208] rejected fro policy reasons. IP address of connection host not found in reverse DNS lookup.

Any one know this issue? I need your help.

Best Regards,
Tep Chanveasna.

Thank you.

Yes, known behaviour, Domino isn't allowed to be an open relay server.

You have to modify the Configuration Settings document for your Domino server, in the Names.nsf database on the server.

Open it, go to Router/SMTP, Restrictions and Controls, SMTP Inbound Controls. The Zimbra server is considered to be an internet host for Domino, so you have to allow incoming mails from that server. Try setting Allow messages only from the following internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains to [192.168.1.208]

Click on the text in the opened document to see some additional help.

Indeed, straight from the Admin Help database that can be found on every Domino server in the help folder...

Hi Sjef Bosman

I try to set Allow messages only from the following internet hosts to be sent to external internet domains to [192.168.1.208], but it still get the same error message as I mention above.

Do you have any suggestion related to that error. I need your help.
Thank you.

After changing one of these parameters, you have to restart the Router task. If you don't do that, the change will be in effect in about 30 minutes or so. There is a command to make the Router reload its internal tables but I can't remember which one...

What are the exact messages in the log.nsf database on the server, in the Miscellaneous section annd the Mail Routing section?

Please look in the log.nsf, the sections I mentioned, and share the lines with error messages, if any.

About your last comment: what do you see, what do you get, any errors? Please be specific, I dropped my crystal ball the other day so I have great difficulty in seeing your screen from here...

I think those errors aren't related to this question. What I meant is: can you open the log.nsf database on the Domino server, and check the Miscellaneous and the Mail Router sections, for errors related to this problem?

Hi Sjef Bosman,

I cannot open log.nsf database on Domino server. Can you guide me how to open this file?

One thing, now I can sent from Zimbra to Internet (yahoo.com), but I cannot sent from Internet to Domino server. When I sent from Internet (yahoo) to Domino server it always point to the Zimbra server and it show the error message below:

Error transferring to 192.168.1.208; Maximum hop count exceeded.  Message probably in a routing loop.

Do you know what wrong with it?

Thank you.
