It's not a traditional input element.

Something like a pretty advanced autocomplete (jQuery UI).

Well, the input element is used to add the data at the and of a string stored in a JS object. it displays a drop down with possible selections. After you have entered some text or selected one suggested term JS takes this and adds it to its internal string. Then the input is cleared and the div or span before the input is refreshed to display the actual value.
