Default printer, test page prints, hardware not in the program list,
HP 1310
We printed a test page by holding down the cancel button and the color copy button and then release. We got perfect red, yellow, blue but no black.
Per another question you see an e-mail was printed from Thunderbird and the header came out prefect black but the rest was a purple. If you look at that image, just under the bottom black line, you see where it looks like someone tried to erase some words and were sloppy. I created that e-mail for the guy to print. Those missing words were bold and red.
We removed the printer and reinstalled and got all the drivers. For some reason a test page is trying to print and fails to delete. We restarted the pc and unplugged the printer and the "deleting but never finishes" is still there.
So, that is the 1310 in the device folder. So we added the printer and now was have the 1310 copy 1. Good, we are now bypassing the test page that never deletes. We printed a food coupon and it was poor quality, lines everywhere.
We can not test all 4 inks because we can not get the printer to print normally as far as color. I copied a black document to notepad > print > it came out light purple.
#1 question with others to follow on this thread is why is the HP printer not in the control panel > programs > ??
It's not there but we can print with the HP 1310 copy 1.
The pc owner has turned the pc off until tomorrow and the printer off as well. Hopefully the pc deletes the test page so we do not have to use copy 1.

Upon reboot today, the printer is showing up in the program list. He tried to pint a sheet of music and the black was good for 1/3 page and then faded out.......faded out is to me any way an indicator that the black is low on ink = good because we needed a status on the 4 cartridges.
It also printed yellow and blue normally since he highlights several words on the sheet.
Why it printed the top of an e-mail and then the rest was purple not sure.
So on this question spooler, drivers, etc. were not an issue it appears. Same for my other question which discusses colors and other settings.

Thanks for the update.

When i want to print a document in B&W, i always select B&W in my printer options first...
when you print black with the color option it is usually a mix of inks that is chosen, so if you are low on black ink/toner only the other colors show up on the printed page

The 1310 has no black and color setting.
It's grayscale, black grayscale. I think. Mine has a black or color choice not the grayscale baloney
I can not find an image to show you.

yes, no baloney - use black to use only black ink!

Here is the link to what he has. Since when did grayscale mean color?

The printer was given to him by his brother many years ago. When he got his Windows 7 system in March we just plugged the printer in and it all worked fine. It found the drivers and it was a USB device. We added it, waited for drivers, etc.
There is no physical disc.
