"VPN was not configured successfully" in the "Set up Anywhere Access" wizard

We have a Server 2012 R2 Standard VM with the Essentials role installed.  Currently remote users VPN into a SBS2011 machine using the default settings (PPTP).  As part of the migration away from SBS2011 we want to move the VPN to the Essentials VM.
Anywhere Access is already configured correctly on the Essentials VM, with the correct ports open on the router (80, 443).
However, when we run the wizard we get the error:

"VPN was not configured successfully.
To configure VPN again, click Retry."

How can we resolve this issue?  Where are the logs for this wizard stored, for example?
