Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

I have been using the micro-USB port of my Alcatel OneTouch TracFone for charging purposes.  At this point, I am wondering if this port can also be used for data transfer between this phone and my laptop without risking  possible damage.

Any shared input to this question will be greatly appreciated.

          Thank you

Hi GMartin,

Yes it can be used for transferring files between the 2 devices. Android provides multiple ways on how you can transfer one file from the phone to your laptop. This can be done either through a Bluetooth or hard wire transfer.

If your laptop has a Blue tooth functionality, which most laptops do now, it can receive a file transfer from your Alcatel. Since you are asking specifically about using the usb, then yes this can also be done. Once you connect the phone using the cable from your phone to the laptop usb port, your laptop will detect the new device. A folder or drive will open and will allow you to perform the transfer.

Let me know if you need more help.

Hello and Good Afternoon Kyu,

Thank you very much for your reply to my question.  With respect to my goal, I wish to transfer some ringtones saved on my laptop to my Alcatel phone.  Your suggestion for considering Blue tooth does spark some curiosity because I have never used this function.  If I chose this as an option, what would be the necessary steps for accomplishing the file transfer from my laptop to the Alcatel phone?

Hello,

I am not sure if this will be needed in addressing my question, but, my laptop is running Windows 10.  The phone is an Alcatel A392G.  I am assuming both devices will need to support Bluetooth in order to use it as a file transfer option.

        Thank you

Hi George,

It can still be done even if you have Windows 10.  Just press ctrl + S and type Bluetooth. Select the app and open. Enable the Bluetooth feature on your computer. You need to enable Bluetooth feature from your phone as well. Once that is done, check your system tray. The system tray is the lower right side of your computer where you see the clock or time. There's an arrow there facing upwards. That's where the hidden icons are. Click on that and if you see the Bluetooth icon right click and select send file. You can then select file to share. Your laptop will detect a visible Bluetooth in the area and will be ready to pair. Once paired, the file will be transferred successfully.

Hello and Good Evening Kyu,

Thank you for addressing my question with such care and detail.   You certainly did answer my question in addition to giving me a bonus by providing an additional option of data transfer, namely, Bluetooth, which was not originally considered.

Great job on this one :-)
