Issues migrating from Exchange 2013 to Google Mail and Calendar

Hi all,

We are in the process of migrating from our in-house Exchange 2013 server to Google Mail and Calendar.  I've tried using 2 separate methods to do a test migration and neither is working.

The Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange (GAMME) tool fails with an error message "Rerun migration.  The GAMME retry limit is 10, but if the server was either heavily loaded or unreachable it will eventually exit.  Admin must re-run the job to migrate pending emails." Super helpful message I know.  I've also tried using the Data Migration Tool that is part of G Suite (the new brand name for Google Apps) and get the error "Authentication error. The username or password you entered is incorrect. Please verify."

Anyone run into this issue with a migration?  How did you get it resolved?

Thanks!

Issue resolved.  Instead of using the option to directly connect to our Exchange server we had to use the option to use an Outlook profile to migrate.  Logged on to the computer as the migration account and made sure Outlook was configured in online mode (cannot use Cached Exchange mode for this).  Then ran the GAMME tool using the option for Outlook profile and the migration is underway.

It sounds like you have an authentication issue.  Are you using a super-admin account for your G Suite account to run the migration tool?   Do you have domain admin access to your Exchange server?  Did you install the migration tool as an administrator?

Hi Allen,

I'm using my account to run the tool (I'm a G Suite super admin).  I have domain admin access to all of our servers.  The tool was installed as an admin.  This is why I'm baffled.  Google support has not been able to determine what is causing the issue :-(

Easily manage email signatures in Office 365

Managing email signatures in Office 365 can be a challenging task if you don't have the right tool. CodeTwo Email Signatures for Office 365 will help you implement a unified email signature look, no matter what email client is used by users. Test it for free!

I will usually use a 3rd party tool that have better documentation.

I spoke with my ops team.  You will likely need to uninstall and rebuild the GAMME/GSMME installation. They recommend rebooting the install system/server as well.

We normally use a 3rd party tool, Cloud Migrator, for migrations for several reasons.  In addition to better documentation, the workflow is much more efficient and doesn't require as many sweeps to get all data moved over.

Thanks Allen!  Will try reinstalling the GAMME and see if the issue goes away.  I work for a non-profit so the pricing for Cloud Migrator may not be in our budget but I'll see if i can request funding for it.

why not utilise Office 365 which is also FREE for non-profit organisation?
it will just make the user experience and migration a lot easier.

Hi Jian An Lim.  We were given G Suite for free from Google and that's what management wants to use.

I rest my case. Management always like to make decision without consulting the technical team.
I pretty sure Microsoft will give you free as well on your non-for-profit status but don't argue over things that can't change :)

For cloud migrator, definitely hit up because I am pretty sure you would have some heavily discounted licence to do some migration.
else, you can tell the management where the google apps is free, the cloud migrator is not. See how their response :)

Kept researching the cryptic error codes we were coming across in the logs.  Google's Support team was not able to assist me with this either.
