why the Git ignore file is not working

Hi Experts ,

We have added the following lines to .gitignore file .
bin/*
web.config

Open in new window



But its keep on tracking those changes when we change something . How can i get rid of it

Try adding below lines to your .gitignore file. I am not aware of your requirement. But I think it's better to keep the web.config file checked in instead of ignoring the changes [Just a suggestion as I am not sure of your requirement].

*.dll
*.pdb
*.config

Where exactly you are placing this .gitignore file. Can you provide a copy of the copy that you are using to verify or test from my end.

this .gitignore is present outside the project.i have attached the image of the folder below.please check it.

Use attached file. Also if you tried to check-in web.config file earlier and just recently trying to ignore web.config file then you have to run below command from git bash and you should be able to solve your issue.

git rm --cached web.config
.gitignore.txt
1
