shadow copies
Hi
I have files servers with data size of 2TB or more. Servers are 2012 OS. What is the best size to set for shadow copies. Sadly, all shadow copies are written into the same disk where live data sits. I noticed that size is set to 300GB. why size is important here could you please explain?
shadow copies are normally small size and I can see each time it creates one for 14 GB. does it mean I need to ensure that size set for shadow copies must be higher than 14GB?
thanks

If you have another disk in your server you can save the snapshots to a different volume.

Please Note, snapshots are not the same as Backups!
If your disk fails your Snapshots are gone, whereas your Backups should be on a seperate media

excellent. thanks
When VSS hits the size limit it will start purging the oldest snapshots.
In your case it will keep roughly 20 snapshots. If thats enough for you, leave it as it is.
