HP Laptop powering up but no display on screen
Hi,
I have an issue with my hp laptop: following models:
Probook: 450 G2
S/N: CND5113J5S
When you turn on the power, the laptop powers up but no display on the screen. So i have done the followings:
- disconnected everything, usb devices
- take off battery and ac power adapter
- hardware reset (pressing power 15 seconds)
- connected ac adapater - everything powers up but still nothing comes up.
- have tried an external monitor via the vga port to the laptop.
- still nothing comes on external nor internal lcd monitor
I then take one memory out of the memory module slot and power up computer but still no lcd displays. I have also swapped the memories with different good RAM on the different slot, one by one...but still no lcd display even from the external monitor via vga port.
What is the problem here? Since the laptop was able to power up but cannot display lcd internally as well as externally? Could it be the Motherboard Memory Modules has failed or the whole Motherboard?
Can someone suggest what could be the issue that is causing this?
Thanks,
Bakaka

Thanks Dr.Klahn, I have also removed the hard drive to test see if its POST but POST did not pass through as well while the mechanical drive is disconnected as well the optical drive.
I am an IT professional for almost 8 years now. But i never come across this issues whenever i troubleshoot or fixed any dead laptops like in this case. You mentioned " PCIe POST card" - is this an hardware tester for motherboard? can you please send me a link if i can purchase one for my shop for my repair purposes?
Yes, i take its the Motherboard that fails. I have already enquire about a replacement on the motherboard for this particular model and its costs around 1200 USD which in my opinion is not economical. Might as well buy the whole new laptop.
What is your take?

do you have any display during boot up? bios, or HP logo?
remove battery and AC adaptor, hold power button for 20 sec, connect AC and reboot --> any display ?
if you can access the bios battery, remove the battery, AC, and bios battery for a minute to reset the bios
or test it, it should read 3 V
test also by booting from a live cd, like Knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html

As per above comments I understand the Video chip has gone faulty and if its integrated mobo may need to be repaired/replaced, contact some chip level engineer.

any more news? how is it going?
The lack of display suggests that the BIOS is not making it very far into the POST (Power On Self Test).
Without a POST diagnostic, pretty much anything could be the issue, but "could be" isn't very useful to troubleshoot. I'd take it to a locally owned PC shop (less expensive than a chain store), have them test it with a PCIe POST card, and see what the POST error code reveals.
If it's the add-in memory, the hard drive or CD drive (and sometimes video in units with swappable video daughterboards) the problem may be fixable. Otherwise, the usual solution to vague POST problems in a laptop is a new motherboard.
