Mac/Safari 10 does not load all images on website
I developed a site for a client here: Publications page.
The thumbnail images all load fine in Chrome, FF and IE. On a MAC however, specifically OS 10+ and Safari 10, only the first few thumbs show and the rest are not loaded.
Oddly, a simple refresh brings them all in. However, my client can't advise all of her potential users to refresh the page. I need to figure out why it's happening to begin with then find a solution to make sure the images are all delivered without the end user having to take any special action.
Any thoughts, MAC/Safari pros?

The link to Publications Page does not work. Says Safari can't find the server "www.reinekegroup.com"

Sorry. Correct link is here: http://reinekegroup.org/pu blications
It's strange. As you say, the first time I go to the page in Safari, some, but not all, of the thumbnails on the left do not show up, but if I refresh the page, or go to it a second time, they show up thereafter.
However, if I clear the cache and then go back to the page, the same icons are missing. I have no idea why, but I will post a screen shot to see if that helps anyone else figure it out.
It almost seems as if it may be a timing thing - perhaps the page gets rendered before all the thumbnails get downloaded, and then doesn't update without a refresh.

Thank you, Lexan, for that feedback. In furtherance of that as a possible solution, here is the code that is displaying the thumbnail. (Default thumb if no image exists otherwise the_thumb):
See anything concerning there? And if not, how can I write the language you suggested into this DIV properly?
<div id="pub_container">
<div class="pubs_image">
<?php if (!get_the_post_thumbnail_url()) { ?><img src="http://reinekegroup.org/dev/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/default.png" />
<?php } elseif (get_the_post_thumbnail_url()) {the_post_thumbnail();} else {};?>
</div>

It works on firefox, but not chrome or safari on Sierra.

This is still not working. No matter what I have tried, nothing works. The code pulling those images on the Publications page is in a loop, ergo it's all exactly the same, which provides no logical explanation as to why these images are appearing only sporadically.

They all open for me in Safari 10.0.1 (El Capitan - OS X 10.11.6)
Same for Chrome (54.0.2840.98)
