HP DL160 G6 Hard Disk Question

Dear Experts,

I have a HP DL160 G6 server and would like to install 2x 4TB disks, in additon to the 2x500GB i have installed that is controlled by the B110i controller. I understand that the B110i controller does not support disks larger that 2TB. To confirm this, I installed two 4TB disks and the controller could only reconigse 2TB worth of disk space.

On the motherboard there are an additional 2 SATA ports (one is used for the DVD-ROM drive). I unplugged the DVD-ROM drive and plugged the SATA cable to one for the 4TB disk and i used the other SATA port and pugged that into the other disk. The drives do not go all the way into the drive bay but this does not bother me. I connect the power but when i power on the server it gets stuck on the BIOS.

Surely the server should boot and Windows will see the 4TB disk?

First of all make sure all the firmware is up-to-date. Then also check your BIOS settings so that your SATA controller doesn't come first in boot priority.
my experience has been as follows:

hp hardware and controllers are very picky about the type of drives you install into them.  They want to see hp firmware on the drive.  The easiest workaround is to spend the extra money on an external drive bay (esata/usb3.0/sas) that would be the easiest and best way to do it.
