Saving document in Word 2007/2010 format using MS Word 2013

I am using Word 2013 and a document in 2013 format.  Is there any way to save it in 2007/2010 format?  I need to use the document with a 3rd party tool that does not support 2013 format but works with 2007/2010.  In Word 2013, I only see the option to save as 97/2003 format, but I need 2007/2010.  If Word cannot do it, is there a 3rd party tool that can convert a Word 2013 document to Word 2007/2010?
Hard to believe you cannot Save As to the previous version of Word, only to a really old version!

Well in word .docx has been the default since 2007 so that is why yo do not see a backsave since 2007,2010, and 2013 all use .docx. If you choose 03 then of course it is just .doc.
What program are you trying to open it with?

You are correct in assuming that the file extension does not always determine the version. Certainly in the past Word 2003 and older always used .DOC even though the file format may not have been compatible.

However, since Word moved to using XML formatting of document with 2007, all files saved as DOCX will work in 2007 or newer. I would suggest you test the older version though, just to be sure everything looks the way you expect.

Even though 2007/10/13 all use docx extension and similar XML format, they are not all identical and have difference feature sets.  The 3rd party tool is an API library, not a program per se.  It works with 2007/2010 format docx but not with 2013 format docx.  So is there really no easy way to save as or convert a 2013 format docx to a 2007 or 2010 format docx?

I am not sure what is the best practice or policy for questions with no solution.  Seems odd to mark "No Solution" as the "Best Solution" and award full points, as it is possible a solution exists just not found/known here.  However, it appears there is no way on EE to close a question and mark it as Unresolved.
I understand how you feel. It is possible to delete a question altogether by using the request attention link and getting a moderator to help. However, others may benefit from your question and the information shared by the Volunteer Experts by your marking the best answer(s). Sometimes, the only real answer is "you can't do that".
