Old GPS chip on Samsung Tab 4 - Kit Kat?

I need to use my Tab 4 to drive Uber, since my iPhone 6 will not load the Uber Partner app.

So, I use my Verizon Wireless MI-FI modem w/ my Tab 4.

But the GPS is terrible!

Is this due to the age of the Samsung?

It's the only tablet that fits in my pocket!

It was already old when I bought it, but I bought it for convenience.

What can I do to get the GPS to work well on my Tab 4??

Android devices use several methods to geolocate. GPS is the most accurate, but chews battery. Many ship with GPS disabled, and the device determining location via the towers connected too, and the location of nearby WiFi bases. This will usually get it within 20M or so, in densely populated areas. GPS usually manages to get better than 1M.

On my Samsung, running a later version of Android, this is set under "settings, location, mode". Not sure if it is the same on earlier versions, but it should be pretty easy to find.
