Windows 7 lost password...(reset vs change)
Background:
- I have limited information/skills in this area.
- I have forgotten the password
There are lots of solution in YouTube. Using one and executing:
Also executing:
At this point,
Option 1: I guess reset could be done by executing:
C:\Windows\System32>net user Mike *
Type a password for the user: NewPassword1
Question 1: Is above option correct?
Option 2: FYI, I don't remember if I have used encryption in creating a document on this computer. The reason for raising this question is if there were any such document exist in my computer, it will be lost because the password was reset.
Question 2: Is there a way to change the password and not to loose encrypted files with the forgotten password?
Thank you.

Mike, since you have selected different answers as solutions: I hope you understand that the first selected comment is neither needed, since you still have administrative access to reset the password, nor will it let you keep encryption keys needed to open EFS files.
