asked on

hardness of water, iron in it, and effect on humans..

to reduce iron content in water, iron additives are being sold..

a)iron does not taste good.. but is iron water harmful for human health..?
b)to remove iron, additives are used.. this is a situation where something is added to food/water to make it palatabile.. is this, by itself, potentially harmful (the chemical additives being ingested daily)

thank you. that settles a few things..you had suggested softner from homedepot..that is fine, if that is all that is needed, but is it an overkill.. that is my question here....

iron (alone) does not relate to softness, does it?

below are my test results..

water is certified safe for drinking (no bacteria etc)
7.2 ph
hardness 6 GPG
iron 1.2 ppm
TDS 95 ppm

the iron is staining things a lot.. the taste also..

do you warrant, see need for softner or just iron filter?
