Is there a tool I can install on my desktop PC that can connect to non networked VM's within a vCentre? I need to be able to browse their system drives to download windows files to my local PC to interiogate

Have you tried VMware Guest Console Tools, which allows the manipulation of files from within a VM, make sure you have VMware Tools installed in the VM.
