Exchange 2003 converted to VM but now email does not work

I have an Exchange 2003 server where it was converted to a VM over the weekend due to disk space issues. The server seems to be be getting emails but OWA keeps bouncing and I need to restart in order for it to start working. Additionally some outlook clients are not getting email. I have found if I delete the account on Outlook then re-add it starts receiving email.

What can I do to fix this or where do i begin to troubleshoot this?

1. Is the original server off?
2. Does the VM have the same amount of resources (ram/CPU) as it had before?

Depending on the speed of the disks you might need to add some additional space and up the size of swap file to help with performance.

You might need to flush cache/arp tables on the computers.   While the IP for the VM is the same as the original the MAC is different.  Also check the DNS settings to make sure that everything matches.  If using WINS you will need to look at that as well.

Both Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 are no longer supported system by Microsoft.  You should also look into migrating away from them if possible as they will expose you to security risks.

Yes, the original server is shut off.

Dont know about the CPU and Ram but i think they are the same.

When I look at the DNS the name and IP are the same so I think they are good.

I know that 2003 both exchange and OS are no longer supported and that is why we are doing the migration but this migration is not going very well and neither I nor the consultant can explian why all these issues are occurring.
Well ram should be 4gb and CPU should at least match what you had in the physical if not higher.  If the VM Host is running SSD drives then they should be fine but you need to make sure that you are running the disks with thick provisioning.

I would also recommend that you look at the vsphere networking setup.  There could be issues there as well.

Well I think i have got some of the issues resolved but OWA keeps bouncing. When I restart the server I can access OWA and log on but after 10 minutes the site is unreachable. I am about to reset the virtual directories but don't know if that will fix my problem or make it worse but in any case I need to get this working because most of my users are remote and rely on their phones to read their emails.
