Strange routing problem between subnets
I have a set of networks that communicate over MPLS.
I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT THIS DOES WORK [normally].
SITE 1 10.0.1.0/24 <> 10.0.1.101 <router1> 192.168.200.201 <MPLS> 192.168.200.202 <router2> 10.0.2.0/24 SITE 2
<MPLS> 192.168.200.203 <router3> 10.0.3.0/24 SITE 3
There is an internet gateway at 10.0.1.1.
The other two subnets get their internet through the MPLS links.
So, router2 and router3 are the internet gateways for the other two subnets.
The MPLS is used for inter-site file sharing, etc. and this is where the question lies:
The internet gateway at 10.0.1.1 has routes:
10.0.2.0/24 to 10.0.1.101
10.0.3.0/24 to 10.0.1.101
These routes are necessary in order to route packets destined for the other subnets.
Corresponding pairs of routes are in the other gateways for the same reason.
I had to replace the 10.0.1.1 gateway.
The replacement has the needed routes.
One can PING from SITE 2 or SITE 3 and get replies from SITE 1
However, file sharing stopped working. It's as if the protocol matters now....
I can see the file sharing traffic going to the SITE 1 destination from either SITE 2 or SITE 3.
I can see the file sharing return traffic going to the SITE 1 gateway.
But, I can't see the file sharing return traffic at the SITE 1 MPLS router 1.
So, it appears that the SITE 1 gateway routes aren't working for file sharing and those packets are dropped there.
But the PINGs do work!
Any insights?
I'm not so much looking for THE solution as I'm looking for the right questions to ponder that could lead me to a solution.
