Hi,

This is my first time using an Apple. A friend of mine asks me to wipe her Apple Macbook Pro (her daughter's), when I use (option and power) to reinstall iOS, it asks me the Apple ID. But the new Apple ID does not work.

When I try to enter Internet Recovery Mode, it does not show the "globe" screen as this link suggests http://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/02/25/how-to-start-up-your-mac-in-internet-recovery-mode/

It goes directly to the language selection screen.  Any ideas?  thx

How old is the Macbook?

Also, what happens when you select the language and proceed from there?

I'm assuming when you go to reinstall osx from that menu it asks you for the apple id as well?

Based on the fact that the device is from 2011 it's possible that it doesn't natively support internet recovery, in that article you linked it further down it has information regarding this. You may need to install a firmware update to allow for this to work. That being said I would go here and attempt to sign in with the apple id they provided you to ensure that it works. Mostly because I have dozens of times come across users who are 100% certain their log in information is correct only to find out after hours of troubleshooting that they have the wrong password.

I also noticed that you said the "new apple id" won't work, if you've created a new id for the process it generally wouldn't work as you would need to use the id that is associated with the macbook in question.

IT, Stop Being Called Into Every Meeting

Highfive is so simple that setting up every meeting room takes just minutes and every employee will be able to start or join a call from any room with ease. Never be called into a meeting just to get it started again. This is how video conferencing should work!

I think that's the problem. I need her daughter's Apple ID to do the reinstall.  Do you think if I asked her daughter to remove device after logging in would work?  thanks

The way I understand it, once you've completed the restore if someone else signs into the system using their apple id when you perform the initial setup it should now be associated with their ID.

I see, so, it is better to do the reinstall when her daughter is there...

Unless she is prepared to give you her ID, then it would be yes. You could still try to update the firmware in the device as described in the linked article to see if you can get internet recovery working but that may be a bit of a project that would have no guarantee of success.

This is where I start to get frustrated working on Mac's.... It's not possible to install the firmware without having access to os/x as their firmware updater runs on top of the OS. You can attempt to create a bootable osx flash drive (instructions here) though you'll need to find a .dmg with the install files. If you can get it to boot from the flash drive you may be able to update the firmware from there.
