Office 365 vs. In-House

I'm the IT manager for a company of 50.. 25 staff in a head office and the 25 dispersed throughout 3 branch offices as well as a few work-from-home folks.

Our current setup is that we serve remote users either via Remote Desktop Server or mapped drives over a VPN. We have Exchange 2007 on-premise in SBS 2008.

We are replacing our server, and going with new version of Office 365. Plan to host email at Microsoft 365 as well our branch office users would access  Office documents in the Office 365 Cloud (Sharepoint/OneDrive).

Question. Is opening Office Documents really slow when stored on Microsoft servers? Maybe I should continue with Remote Desktop Server for my remote users?

No. I never experienced any delay in accessing files from Cloud / OneDrive.

You can also use OneDrive desktop client to sync your local files in the cloud. Drag and Drop files in the local OneDrive folder and they will be synced.

Hope this helps.
