Dell PowerConnect 6248 switch - set to unmanaged mode?
We have an old PowerConnect 6248. Is there any way to put this switch into "unmanaged mode?" I checked the documentation but the word "unmanage" doesn't appear there.

Ahh I see. So yes, that is absurd in the sense that they are using the term to state the cause of the problem. Reading between the lines they are saying they want a switch that is dumb (a hub), which just disseminates traffic and doesn't have the ability for disruption e.g. ACLs, filtering, routing, etc. You can configure a switch to essentially be dumb...in fact resetting to factory defaults as I explained above will do just that - it will wipe out any custom config to ensure it will be a "dumb" switch.
Make sense?

I think the vendor is either incompetent or lying. Switch is basically unconfigured and has worked fine with their phones for years. Two phones out of 40 lost DNS and could not get it back. Assigned manual DNS and all is fine with those phones. Showed the local admin what to do. Problem solved.
I'm glad I could help.
Yeah, it sounds like they are "prompt readers" with low tech experience. :(
Best of luck and thanks for the points!

Frankly, sounds absurd to me, but as the switch is not managing this very small network, it doesn't matter. I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks for the help.
