Mac server OS X 10.11.6 Server 5.2 client computers keep losing connection trying to save data to share.
we have a mac server that has a share on it that all mac and PC client computer save data to. today at lease 3 times the share is not active and clients cant save to it. they reboot the server to get reconnected. Not very MAC savvy but need some guidance on how to find the cause.

Thanks, so this is to be done on the server only for all users correct?

What I am being told is when the share "hangs" it hangs for everyone and to resolve it they restart the mac server.

checked the server and the energy saver is : checked, prevent computer from sleeping, Wake for network access, Start up automatically after a power failure. so I think this is all set correctly on the server.
Great! Is the OS X server connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi?
This sounds like the classic drop. Here is the way to solve it:
1.) Hold down the Command button and then tap the "K" button. Type in the path and connect up. (You should see the network drive/file that you're connected to on the desktop.)
2.) Go to System Preferences
3.) Users & Groups
4.) Click on the User that you want on the left hand side
5.) On the right hand side click the tab "Login Items"
6.) Now drag and drop your network drive into the window.
Now every time the user jumps on the Mac, it will auto connect to the network drive.
Side note: You'll have to do this for each Mac user that wants to connect to the network drive. Hey, at least you'll only have to do it once. ;)
