Why is Exchange not "supported" for Hyper V replicaition?

Hi

I have been using replcation for an exchange 2010 server for a while now with no issues and im just wondering if i have been lucky?

thanks

Thanks.

Lester i have mine set at storing the latest recovery point only.

So should i adjust to the below option then?
Yes, you can use the option as I indicated.

You should however ear in mind Lee's comment - it's a very valid one.  if this is a single Exchange server, then it's probably not a problem, but Exchange DOES provide an alternate, and probably more preferred solution than using Hyper-V replica - and that is to use DAG's.  I use DAG's myself, and it's useful because then when you have to do maintenance, your users don't have downtime :)

My only problem with DAG and please correct me if im wrong is the additional nead for licencing.

My customer although values DR etc im not sure they could afford to double their licencing costs.
Indeed - every exchange server needs to be licensed.  Add a server for DAG - that's two licenses.  Split the two servers into separate CAS and MBX roles - that's 4 licenses.  Addd an edge server - that's another one :)  If cost is a concern, then the solution I suggested will give you a crash-consistent replica.

You should however be aware that when it does the VSS snapshot - there will be a pause in Exchange, and this might be noticed by your users.  If the users are using cached exchange mode, then they won't notice.

Thanks.

Costs are always a concern :)

Is there a way of knowing how long a VSS snapshot takes?
You won't know until you actually do one - it's one of those "it depends" situations.  If you're wondering if it's going to take 5 minutes, that's not my experience.  From instant to a few seconds is normal.
