can any US household electrical device/equipment be made to work in asia..
is it just an issue of getting a quality adapter,
or should the machine be certified 220V compatible?

can you then give review of step down: gse-5000-220V.. will that not need any additional transformer etc.. and wont have drawback of GSE-5300?

Now there are some items to which this doesn't make any difference, but there are also some to which it is critical.
If you can give us specific items, we can comment on them. For example, it makes no sense to take a US hair dryer to a 220V country. These burn up the little transformers for small items such as radios - the current pull is way too high. Likewise, taking a motor-driven clock to a 50 Hz country will make it run slow by 1/6.
