Migrate SharePoint 2013 to new server
I am planning on building a new SharePoint server, and could use some assistance with the migration
My current server is Windows Server 2008 R2, SharePoint 2013 with SQL Express 2008.
My new server is Server 2012 R2, SharePoint 2013 with SQL 2012.
What is the easiest way or any helpful guides out there, to migrate this from one server to another.

The server we first put it on is not the best server so we constantly have speed issues with it. Which is why I am wanting to move it to a new beefy server compared to its counterpart.
Makes sense. There are a few different ways to go depending upon the current use of your SharePoint farm. Presuming the farm is just basic collaboration with primarily document libraries and list here is one suggestion:
The first step would be to build the new farm as you mentioned. Create a mirror image of the current web app(s) in the new farm. Do a backup of the current data and restore in the new farm. Modify DNS to point to the new environment.
Of course this extremely simplified, but show you the basic idea. You best bet is to go to TechNet for full details or actually invest a few dollars a book that goes in to deep details. You will probably get more responses on this thread that are a few pages long that will have good information, but will still have holes in it because this is not something that can be completely covered in a few pages.
Good luck and hope that helps...

Do I need to do anything with the SQL database? Or will backing up the farm and restoring it re-create all the database items?
