High Available Storage based on linux
Hello to all ,
Im looking for an alternative way to create a storage solution based on open source software to have backups stored . Until now we have used HP lefthand OS with 4-5 nodes that it can create network raid between storage nodes so you can have availability and performance . Any ideas if i can do something like this with something else ? I heard about https://www.gluster.org/ . Anyone that have used this ?
Thanks

QNAP has solutions but those are not as flexible as LeftHand storage clusters.
so applicability might differ.
Openfiler & FreeNAS have been around for a while now.

Hello all ,
@noci , QNAP , openfiler and freenass is not for as because as i said i want to create a software define storage with network raid for performance an high availability and also have some kind of tiering between different disk RPM (mixed volumes SSD,FC,NL) . . In our company we also have 3PAR and storage spaces direct . In first case it is a classic SAN . Storage spaces direct is a Software define storage from Microsoft.
I read a little about ceph and it seems that it can do the job . It also has tiering technology as 3par but i cannot understand if 1st. It can be used as an iscsi target. and 2nd if it can balance data when you add another node to the cluster.
If anyone has used it and can help feel free!!
Thanks you all

Based on the fact that you are using one of HPe LHN SANs (Either P4000 or StoreVirtual), I am going to assume that your organization is either medium or larger. As you continue your search, keep in mind that the HPe LHN Storage products (When Network-RAID-10 or higher is configured) are rated as a 5x9's solution (Meaning that the uptime is 99.999%) - I will follow this question to see if someone comes up with a comparable or better solution... I would be very interested.
