Trying to develop a report that sums sales by salesperson year by year

I am trying to figure out how to develop a report that looks like the attached.  I want it to always present the sum totals for each rep for the current year and one year back and two hears back.  The data all comes from one table.  The sales figures come from a field named "Purchase Price" and the dates come from a field named "Closing Date".

I don't even know where to begin.  Any help much appreciated.
