website cannot open inside the network
My company website opens correctly outside the network but not inside. I know it has to do with some DNS settings. I need help configuring those settings.
My DNS server is on the domain controller (server 2012 r2). The website is installed on a different server (also server 2012 r2)
Please help!
Thanks

If you are attempting to open the site with the same URL as you do when you are offsite the issue maybe that you need to create a loopback NAT policy in your router, rather than being a DNS issue. Often business grade routers won't allow you to access an internal resource with an external address if it sees the originating request as coming from the same network.
Just go to your DNS server, create new forward lookup zone
www.websiteserver.com and point to your internal IP where website is located.
Refresh DNS on workstation :)

Do I need to use the address: www.websiteserver.com when creating the new forward lookup zone?

For the Name of Host A inside of the new zone, do I have to use the name of the server where the website resides?
Because I followed your recommendations, its still not working...
(Sorry I got sick the last 2 days and didn't work on this.)

Also, just want to mention that the website address is something like, abc.def.com. Should I put all that in the new zone name?
Just to clear a couple of things up:
- The web server is located inside your network, right? That site isn't hosted outside somewhere?
- Does your AD domain have the same name as your registered Internet domain, or is it completely different?
Yes create new forward lookup zone named: abc.def.com
and put inside everything I said before

I did exactly the following, but it still doesn't work:
Create new Forward Lookup Zone: abc.def.com
abc.def.com
inside put your DNS
(same as parent folder) Name Server (NS) server.abc.local
(same as parent folder) Host (A) 192.168.0.10
Create new Forward Lookup Zone: abc.def.com
abc.def.com
inside put your DNS
(same as parent folder) Name Server (NS) server.abc.local
(same as parent folder) Host (A) 192.168.0.10

When I do nslookuo "webserverip" I get the website link
When I type in the ip address of the website server in a browser, I get the default web page of IIS server
When I type in the ip address of the website server in a browser, I get the default web page of IIS server
I hope you put your DNS server name in my example server.abc.local and your real webserver IP in my example 192.168.0.10

Yes I used my real dns server name and its ip address 10.10.10....
When I type in the ip address of the website server in a browser, I get the default web page of IIS server
Because you have your website redirected to subfolder so You can't use IP
You need to use www.yourserverwebname.com
that was whole purpose to use Forward lookup Zone inside your domain

Do I need change/add anything in IIS? Because I think I did everything correctly for the DNS settings...
What is happening if you use www.xxxxxxxxx.com in your webrowser ?

Its working now after I recreate the zone by uncheking the "Store the zone in AD ...." option on the "Zone Type" page.
