windows update wont update on hp laptop????

hi,

i have an hp laptop which i recently loaded windows 7 os onto. After going to windows update and check for updates...it will take a very very long time searching or loading for latest updates:

please how do i get around it so that i am able to download and install updates without having to wait for long....

NB: I left the hp machine to check for updates but it is more than 2 hours. I assume this error is from the reinstallation of windows os (7 x64)

Please advise.

rindi, which one - all of it? I have selected all of it and it comes to 5.4GB...this is huge?

Otherwise, if i have to download it all...then it is fine.

Let me know if i have to download all of em or just select a few.

First make sure if you need SP1 or not. If you right click "Computer" and select "Properties", under "Windows edition" you will see whether Servicepack 1 is installed or not. If it is already installed, you don't need it.

If it isn't installed, then you only need to download the 2nd last option, "windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe", about 900 MB.

thanks nobus....it came on me for searching for updates so i cancel it and reboot the system and everything went well. thank you rindi for your solutions...it is the same as nobus.
