Need laptop with Core i5/i7 HQ and intel-only graphics

Hi experts.

I hope someone here knows a machine that has the following characteristics:

  • real intel quadcore (cpu name has to contain "HQ") of generation 6 (skylake), NOT gen 7 (kaby lake)
  • no radeon or nvidia graphics but ONLY intel HD (so any optimus device is out unless you can switch off nvidia at bios level)
  • currently available (not used but in stores now)

So far, I have only found dell precision 5510. Problem is, I definitely need to see before ordering and stores near me that sell Dell don't have that model in stock, so I need an alternative

Hi Tycho, did you read that the CPUs need to be quadcores? Not dualcores with hyperthreading like the dell models, please, but models with a HQ in their names as in core I5 6440HQ. Your pentiums are quadcores, yes, but they are rather built for ultrabooks then for performance.

No, does not need to be Dell, like I wrote, it's even better when it's not because the shops usually don't sell Dell and I would like to look at it.
My ThinkPad X1 Carbon has an i7 Skylake CPU Quad Core. Currently available from Lenovo. Professional machine - retailers do not sell these.

16 GB, 1 TB PCI-e NVM-e SSD drive.

Top notch machine.

Hi.

No John, that one (Intel Core i7-6600U) has a dual core with hyperthreading (2 physical, 4 logical cores) but no real quadcore (4 physical cores). That's why I wrote, that I am looking for Core i5/7 models with "HQ" in their model names - those are real quadcores.
no radeon or nvidia graphics but ONLY intel HD (so any optimus device is out unless you can switch off nvidia at bios level)

It is rare that such a high end notebook has only Intel HD. What is the purpose of having this feature?

But I do not read Belgium and have no idea where there is an Lenovo store in Beligum.
The very large ThinkPad P series can do what you are asking.

I am curious what workload you think my X1 cannot do?

And why not wait for Kaby Lake?

Too many constraints here.

We have a customized linux that is stripped down to the bone (very few drivers, just intel ones) and offers no interface to add drivers. Since it will host high performance applications, we need 4 real cores.
Thanks. What about the P series above?

The thinkpad p series? Which model has a HQ processor but no nvidia card? I did not find any, John.
"I am curious what workload you think my X1 cannot do?" - that is not what it's about, it's that the application we are working with requires four physical cores to run at all (portable mathematical simulation).
"And why not wait for Kaby Lake?" - K.L. is not only the processor but also the chipset and with it the new intel HD. The mini Linux that we use offers no drivers for that generation, maximum is skylake, K.L. will be supported not before  winter 2017.

*bang, you're out*. Nvidia optimus is not supported, screen would remain simply black.
I only see this one,

But it has NVidia graphics which you do not want.

Jackie, that one has also nvidia graphics. Why do you name it? Is it adjustable to use integrated graphics, only? It's a must for us, to run only intel HD.
To go a bit backwards, my machine has Intel i7 CPU and Intel Graphics. It has a super fast SSD drive. The only thing it is lacking for you is a quad CPU.

I suggest you get the fastest thing you can get with Intel Graphics and Skylake. There are a few of these around.

It seems quad core come mostly with NVidia.

John, I have found the Dell precision 5510 and the dell latitude 5470. Both offer hq and intel hd only.
Dualcore will not work, real quad is the minimum requirement.

I think I'll look into dell's try before buy program - just heard of it today.
I had not seen that so let us know.
There is not much to criticize in terms of port selection since the GS63VR covers all modern standards including Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI and USB Type-C. Unfortunately, according to the specification sheet, the HDMI output supports only the 1.4 standard so high-resolution 4K screens can only be driven at 60 Hz via DisplayPort. The laptop does support Nvidia’s Optimus technology, which means that there is no G-Sync support for the internal screen.
The review above said it has what you want, Nvidia Optimus.

No, you misunderstood, I am looking for devices with intel hd only. If Optimus, the NVidia part would need to be deactivated in the bios, so if the model offered that...it's ok, if not, I can't use it.
Dell latitude come with AMD Radeon R7 GPU, not just Intel GPU.

Great, really. I wasn't aware that the t460p (John mentioned the p-series before) was configurable with intel only! In fact, I was at a local Lenovo dealer and we tried it (ourLinux) out on a t460p and had no graphics (it was an optimus model), so I asked the dealer if it was configurable without optimus and he said "no" without hesitating...

Thanks very much. Since we know our software works with a t460s, it will work with t460p as well and that will be it, so we don't even have to try it out in the shops!
