Is it possible to us VS 2015 to develop SSRS reports(.rdl) using Report Viewer? If so, How?

I am accustomed to creating SSRS reports through VS and using SSRS services. I am now changing gears to using MS Report Viewer. I would like to continue development the way I have in the past. But am finding some difficulty in doing this. For example, previously, I could easily create report parameters for a report derived from the query inside the report itself. If I were to use that same report using  MS Report Viewer, that specific parameter would not automatically show a dropdown with the query values to produce the report. To be even more specific that dropdown parameter never even hits the server. I know this because I check the SQL Profiler. It is my understanding that these pass through an .aspx page; so maybe it is keeping it from displaying?

From the videos I have seen online, it looks as though there is a LOT more involved... Create a form, add reportviewer object, add dataset, create objects to pass parameters, etc... Is this the only way to do it? (If I need to covert a mass number of reports from Crystal to a 'SSRS' flavor. Or even converting/modifying old .rdls... This seems like an almost insurmountable task.  )

If you suggest tutorials links or create one of your own; please make sure it includes start to finish and is relevant to my scenario. I have goggled a number of them, but all seem to have the same basic process and result.

Thanks.
