asked on

streaming to a tv

I want to have the capability to remote in to a device and copy content , and then play it on a tv.

Is there a way to accomplish that without having a computer?

Remote? Do you mean internet or LAN or WiFi or another type of network?
A smart TV can do browsing and streaming.
Then are those small smart boxes attached to normal TV that can transform your TV in a  smart TV, because they can do browsing and streaming.
Where is the location of your video? Internet or LAN, WAN?
Do you have access to that video with a PC browser?
What web or TV program did you want to remote into? alonig1
As we have no foundation as to the what we cant really offer the how to.
When you use the terminology copy content it strikes in most experts copyrights.
If it is cable TV that has a different approach to if it is a web site.
If you can provide the source and what type of programs as in web based.
Then we can better help you as there is just too many approaches.
But then you throw in a condition no computer so it makes me wonder what the source is.
There is the option of connecting a TV to the router for internet based streaming from but you still need a PC to set it up.
To copy something off has it's legalities.
To play a none copyright video or free to air to TV has other avenues to achieve it.
What type of TV do you have and what do you mean by remote in to a device, a device is very broad .
Please provide more details
Thanks

I'm talking about the slingplayer. slingbox.

for some reason they just disabled their software and now we need to use the web, which is much worse.
Thanks, do you own a DVR? ( Digital Video Recorder) or a set top box?
Can your TV connect to the internet?
With many of these programs like cable TV  they want to steer us away from using on our old TV  or a hardware like set top box DVR,
Web based stuff can always be recorded if connected to the right device/app on your windows desktop  that has internet access. I use this free tool now  just called Free video recorder from  DVDVideoSoft since windows 10 changed that dropping the Aero so my Fraps nolonger works on it. But I also have windows 7.
You can use just about any device connected to the Internet to get service, including iOS and Android devices, your Xbox One, your Roku box, Chromecast and Windows devices.

With a Slingbox as it is a physical device  you can attach it  to your cablebox/DVR and it allows you to control and view your TV/cablebox/DVR content from afar using a broadband Internet connection and the SlingPlayer app on your mobile phone, iPad, or through Slingbox software on your laptop.
Refer to .
Viewing your Slingbox
With remote viewing, you can watch your Slingbox from any place that you can access a high-speed Internet connection.

If you have a laptop you could connect the laptop to your TV input using a HDMI cable if your TV supports it. Then you put the TV onto avs.
Only use this method if one or both of your devices doesn't have an HDMI port.
The VGA port is labeled as PC IN on the image below. If your laptop has no video output, you can connect your laptop to your TV via an adapter which plugs into your laptop's USB port and provides a VGA output.
How to below link includes how to do it wirelessly.

You can do the same with a desktop

There is a guide here about how to connect it to a DVR ( Digital Video Recorder)
What is a Slingbox and Do I Need One

Let me know if that covers what you need or just ask me as I have done the same at home but with cable TV.
How much can you afford?

I did us for slingbox or streaming training session. I asked a specific question regarding the slingplayer. ways to play it. Since they recently blocked their desktop sling player .
Actually all I read >I want to have the capability to remote in to a device and copy content , and then play it on a tv.
Is there a way to accomplish that without having a computer?

Then you say your desktop  Sling Box player app doesn't work and that led you to ask.
Possibly they upgraded  their software and your Slingbox  player is outdated?
I posted the steps how to connect it to a DVR. No PC needed but a TV with internet connection is required.
And other options.
Doesnt help you?
Check this maybe of assistance
Which SlingPlayer software works with my Slingbox?

That's all common knowledge.

I'm looking for otherwise to connect to the slingplayer. with open source devices / software. since they disabled their software.
Who is your TV provider? Some of them will let you watch content from anywhere through a browser. For example, Comcast has their X1 Cloud DVR. It won't solve the Slingbox side of the issue, but it's better than nothing.

It's overseas . I have a slingbox connected. the only issue is that suddenly from nowhere they decided to disable the slingplayer for desktop.
It's an over seas cable TV provider?
Do they provide a set top box?
My cable TV provider provides a set top box ( which is changing eventually to an internet connected set top box)
but for now I connected my cable TV set top box to my Panasonic  HD Set Top Box, designed for TV of course it includes twin HD tuners for the TV,  but it has AVS1 in, and a HDMI supported input/output which I use  to connect it to the TV.
It also has a 500 gig HDD and includes a DVD burner. It was over a thousand dollars Australian but has paid for itself.
There is lots cheaper these days.

So my Samsung TV 68 cm digital is just used like a monitor, I watch TV and Cable TV on the Panasonic by changing the source to AVS1 for Cable TV or "TV "for free to air  Digital TV
Because they run through the Panasonic it records from AVS1 channel or the digital TV channels.
I cannot record the pay per view movie network on Cable only any of the other 250 channels like  Showcase/Box Sets/History/ Discovery / sci fi/Fox etc. I have a lot.
I dont connect to the internet.
So I understand you " Overseas "  is this outside your region?
Which country do you reside in and where is your cable provider?
There is apps to get your cable provider ( you pay for it) anywhere in the world
Did your desktop player cease to work because you are over seas?
and now you'd like to find a way to connect to it?
One of the few things I can think of is maybe downgrading your SlingPlayer software. It *might* work, but otherwise you're probably stuck. I don't use a Sling device, but might I ask what is the issue with using it through the browser?
Yes if you have an iphone  or ipod touch they give a free player
Slingplayer Free for iPhone/ available in some countries not all.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slingplayer-free-for-iphone/id993621010?mt=8
It's a bit dodgy piece of hardware as is, but I would like to understand why the desktop player ceased to work and why?
Is it because you are out of town?

You should consider other options. Like Tivo - Roku
More details helps but eventually everything will be online/internet based smart TV /devices and pay per view unless it's free to air.
